Branding vs. marketing: what's the difference?

People use branding and marketing interchangeably, but they’re two different jobs. One builds the reputation; the other spreads the word. You need both, in the right order.

Branding is the foundation

Branding is your identity, voice, and promise — the consistent thing people recognize and trust over time. It’s slow to build and hard to fake.

Marketing is the amplifier

Marketing is the campaigns, content, and channels that get that brand in front of people. Great marketing on a weak brand burns money; great marketing on a strong brand compounds.
